Taken entirely on a Holga plastic toy camera, this body of work started life as an exploration of the aesthetics rendered by the Holga's lens. As the camera is a toy it is far from being perfectly constructed, and is replete with faults – light leaks, rainbow reflections and vignetting of the image's outer edge, to name but a few – it depicts what is caught in its lens with a subtle distortion. The experimentation with these faults and quirks has culminated in a year-long project that not only explores the Holga's plasticity, but also the way in which one can mould the urban landscape with it. Even though these eighteen images have been taken in different locations the individual details combine to create a new, and cohesive landscape, strange yet familiar. This series incorporates the sublime nature of the urban environment into strange journey through a place which sits somewhere between the real and the surreal.
