Over the past 30 years, this area of Melbourne has under gone a radical gentrification, especially within the suburbs of Windsor and Prahran, which were originally areas in which workers from the nearby rag trade and light industry lived, and later were the site of several large council housing estates.  Prahran has also had a long history of commerce and has been a centre for entertainment for the inner south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne.  In contrast, the adjoining suburb South Yarra has always been a wealthy area.

Despite this gentrification, there is still evidence within the local shopping area of the more working class roots of Windsor and Prahran, mixed with the influences of the large Gay community, local creative industries, and S&M subculture.  This offers a contrast to the more affluent shops found a mere 2 kilometres away in South Yarra.

This series was an exploration of socio-economic change along one shopping district in the inner suburbs of Melbourne, beginning in Windsor and moving along Chapel Street to Prahran then to South Yarra.
